What do we do when we find ourselves rowing against the wind, exhausted, and unable to make progress no matter how hard we try? In Mark 6, we encounter the disciples in exactly that situation — stranded in the middle of the Sea of Galilee after hours of struggle, when something utterly inexplicable appears on the water. This passage pulls back the curtain on one of the most dramatic and identity-revealing moments in all of Scripture. When Jesus speaks the words 'I am' to his terrified disciples, he is not simply identifying himself — he is reaching back through the entire history of God's dealings with his people, from the burning bush to the parting of the Red Sea, to declare that the same God who led Israel through the wilderness is now walking toward them on the water. The spiritual lesson here is not a simple 'stop worrying' — it is a grounded, evidence-based call away from fear, rooted in who Jesus actually is.
